Hello, Fellow Creative Souls
It’s a cryin’ shame that the tyranny of the urgent keeps so many of us from doing the things we truly want to be doing in life. But, as for me, I really only have myself to blame. I, like many others, have fallen prey to the lullaby of life that lulls us into believing “we’ll have plenty of time to do fun/fulfilling/meaningful/daring/you-fill-in-the-blank things when we’re not so ‘busy.’”
We’re busy making ends meet, raising our kids, caring for aging parents…yes. But what’s it going to take to snap us out of the trance of just going through the motions of life? When will we start living life on purpose? With intentionality?
I love the verses in Ecclesiastes that remind us that to be capable of enjoying our work…our life… is a gift from God.
“There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and assure himself that there is good in his labor. Even this, I have seen, is from the hand of God. For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without Him? For to the person who pleases Him God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who pleases God.” ~Ecclesiastes 2:24-26
So, let’s throw off the apathy that keeps us prisoner. Are you dissatisfied with your work? Do you feel there is never enough time to step back and evaluate your own wants, needs, and desires? And, much less, act on them?
If you are a child of God, He will direct your steps to the changes that you need to make… even if that is simply a change in attitude. He has a purpose for each of us, and there is no greater peace than to be in the center of His plan.

So, let’s get it together. Put on your own oxygen mask first, so to speak. For me, it means I’m striving to be mindful of how I feed my body, to be intentional to exercise regularly, to make time for my relationship with Christ. I know I have to be purposeful in connecting with people who are important in my life. And… I’m going to create and PAINT. Let’s do this!
Sometimes you just have to work with what you have. These chairs are sturdy, with good bones… and there are SIX of them. It would take some cha-ching to replace them so I decided to revive them instead. First, I went over every inch with TSP for a good cleaning. I found a fantastic dealContinue reading “Little Changes • Big Impact”
Since my fairy tale wedding to the man of my dreams, I’ve experienced a new surge in my nesting instinct. With the abundance of home renovation tv shows, DIY blogs, and the explosion of Pinterest, there is no shortage of inspiration! I’m a self proclaimed Jack-of-all-trades and master-of-none! So, I’m usually good to take onContinue reading “Gotta Start Somewhere”
